Use and credit our work

What you can do. The reports, charts, maps, text and data files on this site are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0. You may copy, share and adapt them, including commercially, as long as you:

  • credit us: “New Mexico Water” with a link to this site (or the page you used);
  • say if you changed anything;
  • keep the data credits that appear on the page you took it from (see below);
  • share what you make from it under the same licence.

A credit line could read: “Rio Grande report, New Mexico Water (https://newmexicowater.org/rivers/rio-grande/), CC BY-SA 4.0. Data: U.S. Geological Survey, Bureau of Reclamation, PRISM Climate Group (Oregon State University).” Each page shows its own list of sources; copy that.

What the licence covers, and what it does not. It covers what we contribute: how the data are selected, arranged and computed, and our text, charts and maps. It does not change the terms of the data underneath, which belong to the agencies and programs that collected them. Many of those data are in the public domain; the rest have the terms listed below. If you reuse our numbers, you are also relying on theirs.

Tribal and community data

Some of the measurements behind our temperature and salinity charts were collected by tribal environmental programs and shared publicly through a federal system. Public is not the same as ours to use without care. To ask for a correction, a change of credit or removal, use the contact form.

Corrections

If you steward data we use and want it credited differently, corrected or removed, or you find an error in our numbers, use the contact form or open an issue. We will answer and, where we got something wrong, fix it and say so on the page’s Data notes.
