Data gaps and disparities

Found automatically in the gauge records behind this river, and notes from a reviewer who checked them against other sources. Gauges need at least 26 weeks of daily data to appear on the Flow tab.

USGS publishes no daily flow for this gauge from May 8, 2024 to May 12, 2026. Asked directly, the USGS daily-values service marks every day from mid-May 2024 to June 2025 "Rat" (rating being developed) and a few days in June and July 2025 "Eqp" (equipment malfunction), with no value, and returns nothing at all from mid-July 2025 until May 2026. The segment rests on the Hollywood gauge downstream for those two years. The gap began in the season of the June 2024 South Fork and Salt fires above Ruidoso, which may have changed the channel at the gauge (inferred, not stated by USGS).

Warnings (2)

  • warning: peak conflict Rio Ruidoso At Hondo, NM: 1 approved USGS daily value exceed that water year's USGS annual peak, in water year 1942 (e.g. 1,800 cfs on Oct 1, 1941 against a peak of 1,330). A day's mean cannot exceed the year's peak, so one of the two USGS records is wrong for those years; the daily values are kept.
  • warning: gap Rio Ruidoso At Ruidoso, NM: 1 gap of 60+ days inside the record (735 days in all). Longest: May 8, 2024 to May 12, 2026 (735 days).

Context (3)

Show 3 notes
  • ended Discontinued gauges: 1 gauge has stopped reporting: Rio Ruidoso At Hondo, NM (last 1955). Their segments rest on fewer gauges after those years.
  • single gauge Rio Hondo: 71% of this segment's weeks rest on a single gauge; the segment value is that gauge in those weeks, and jumps when other gauges join or drop out.
  • copy disagree Rio Ruidoso At Hollywood, NM: The usace_cwms copy agrees on the median but differs by more than 10% on 49% of 310 shared days (often provisional vs approved data, or a different daily averaging window). The report takes 7 days from usace_cwms where usgs is missing, so the level can shift there.

Values removed (0)

A reading is removed automatically only when it is impossible (for example, a daily mean above the highest flow USGS recorded that water year). Low and zero flows are never removed: rivers here really do dry up.

None.
